Job Description

The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN) is seeking a Lighting Technician for our Production Operations Team at our Headquarters office in Springfield, VA. MBN is a non-profit grantee of the federal government that directly communicates with the people of the Middle East and North Africa through television, radio, and digital media. MBN's mission is to provide objective, accurate, and relevant news and information to the people of the Middle East about the region, the world, and the United States in support of U.S. public diplomacy.

The Lighting Technician is responsible for providing timely and technical lighting support of a fast-paced 24x7x365 news and entertainment broadcast network.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Lighting Technician include, but are not limited to:

Executing and maintain the lighting designs established for all studio productions.
Collaborate with directors and producers to achieve the desired lighting scheme for live and recorded productions.
Assisting in maintaining inventory of all lighting supplies.
Maintaining all lighting fixtures and gear, including pre-show checks for burnouts, vacuuming dimmer racks, etc.
Communicating with Lighting Director all concerns and needs of the lighting department.
Maintaining the lighting design for all studio productions.
Ensuring the consistency and quality of each shows established lighting scheme.
Learning to make or change plots using Microsoft Word.
Participating in preparing budgets and schedules for all lighting projects.
Supporting a 24x7 facility, requires the ability to work various shifts, weekends, including holidays.

Candidates are required to have:

A Bachelor’s degree in television or related field is preferred; professional experience in lieu of education will be considered.
5 years combined studio and field lighting experience.
Proficiency with computers.
Demonstrated technical knowledge in television production with extensive lighting and how it applies to camera placement.
Knowledge of basic electricity and power distribution.
Working knowledge of grip and rigging skills.
Working knowledge of DMX.
Knowledge of ETC consoles and dimmer systems preferable.
Knowledge of virtual set or green screen preferable.
Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours, including overnights and weekends.
